Gamers have become quite accustomed to tech-savvy individuals sifting through a game’s background files via a demo or substantial update. In the case of Fortnite, an entirely new mode may have been discovered via the files linked to the battle royale’s 16.40 update patch. And what makes that leaked mode so intriguing is its apparent focus on PvE gameplay mechanics. That sandbox survival mode variation has been referred to as “Daybreak” and may transport players to a wholly separate island hub.

'Fortnite' May Be Getting a New PvE Survival Mode Called Daybreak
The now leaked description for Daybreak mode is as follows: “You wake up alone and unarmed along the coast of an island, with no memory of how you arrived. Quickly search for weapons and ammunition before night falls and creatures begin to roam the hillsides, hunting for prey. Keep an eye out for other stranded people they may prove to be invaluable allies in your fight to stay alive on the increasingly hostile island. Along the way, search for parts that can be used to repair one of the downed helicopters that are near the island's center. If you find the correct parts and have enough fuel, you may be able to complete the Impossible Escape! NOTE: Players loading in with a squad will be separated. Search for your friends or other players on the island and form a new squad! ... Repair a choppa to escape the island before the storm closes in on the third night."
It’s worth noting that information related to Daybreak’s development and future inclusion in Fortnite was discovered as a part of the documentation tied to the Epic Games vs. Apple court case. Another interesting bit of in-development Fortnite content that came to light from that same documentation is a basketball minigame. According to an internal report dated back to June 2020, the leaked B-Ball add-on is being prototyped for a non-combat focused Party Royale mode variation. 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 variants of the mode are said to be in the works.
Another major element of Fortnite’s future slate of basketball-themed content is reportedly a Lebron James skin. Head even deeper into those same legal documents and you’ll be treated to news regarding a Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson skin and even the future inclusion of Metroid’s very own Samus Aran. Fortnite is always upping the ante by adding in a host of new modes, skins, live concerts, and so much more. By the looks of the recent leaks, fans can expect to have even more substantial goodies to look forward to.
