In case you didn’t know, there’s a new platform called Threads that was released last night through Instagram, and it’s basically the Twitter version of Instagram—if that makes sense. In fact, according to some, Threads are actually being called the “Twitter Killer.”

Now this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Instagram come out with a “threat” to their direct competition. There was the introduction of Instagram Stories to compete with Snapchat. What is Threads?

How to create a Threads account:

Where is the Threads app available?

You can currently find Threads in 100 countries and more than 30 languages via Apple’s iOS and Android.

When going through the signup process, you’ll be asked whether or not you want to follow everybody you follow on Instagram, but your following will not automatically transfer over. Sorry guys. You can automatically transfer your IG bio and profile picture though if that helps you feel better.

What's the character count on Threads?

You can write up to 500 characters per post, compared to Twitter's default of 280.

What else do I need to know about Threads?

Posts on Threads also boast the ability to add individual or carousel pictures and videos, so there’s more options to share your thoughts in long form. You can also like, repost, and the whole nine yards. If you are verified, that’s transfers over as well. As for whether or not it will compete with Twitter, we can’t predict that right now. Time will tell.
