The 'Twilight' Movies in Order: How and Where to Watch Them

In this first installment, we get introduced to Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) a troubled misfit who gets sent to live with her father Charlie (Billy Burke) because she can't be controlled anymore. Bella leaves Phoenix to move to a small town where she then meets an intriguing teenager named Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Cullen is a rather cold/aloof fellow who we eventually end up finding out is a vampire. He also has a way of disappearing for days/weeks at a time with no explanation, which is something that frustrates Bella. After being gone for a week and not explaining himself, Edward saves Bella from being hit by a van in the school parking lot.

We aren't going to spoil too much of the movie in case you haven't seen it yet, but just know that Edward and Bella end up falling in love, and there's individuals out there that are determined to put a wrench into their individual lives and respective relationship. Twilight grossed $408 million at the box office on a $37 million budget, which officially gave the green light for a follow-up film.

Released almost a year to the day of the first film, New Moon follows up on the events of the first film as Bella and Edward or having relationship issues. Bella has already been having nightmares about growing old while Edward the ageless vampire stays young, but her insecurities triple when Edward's foster brother attacks her because of her human blood. As a result, Edward breaks up with Bella to protect her, which leaves her depressed. After the breakup, Bella begins spending more time with Jacob (Taylor Lautner) along with other friends to try to brighten up her mood, but she keeps having visions that Jacob isn't exactly who he says he is. Meanwhile, desperate times call for desperate measures, and Bella is desperately trying to do everything in her power to see Edward again.

As great as the first film performed at the box office, New Moon doubled that and then some grossing $711 million on a $50 million budget.

The only Twilight film to ever come out during the summer months, it wasn't even a full year between the release of New Moon and Eclipse, which should tell you just how in demand this franchise was. In Eclipse, Edward and Bella are toying with the prospect of marriage while also discussing the idea of Bella becoming an immortal vampire. Bella is opposed to marrying so young as she is only eighteen, but Edward is dead set on not turning her unless they are married. Once you've reached this point in the saga you'll be more than familiar with Jacob's love for Bella, which is something that also presents itself as a problem in Eclipse. If you guessed that this is something that's going to turn into a three way love triangle, you guessed correctly.

While not performing as well as its predecessor, Eclipse was still a major box office success, grossing $698.4 million on a $68 million budget.

The first of the final two films, Breaking Dawn – Part 1, kicks off with the wedding of Bella and Edward, which was a decision they both agreed on at the end of Eclipse. It's supposed to be a happily ever after honeymoon on the Cullen family private island, until Jacob finds out that Bella is going on the honeymoon as human and not vampire. Jacob fears that the honeymoon passion will lead to Edward accidentally killing Bella, but there's a new "problem" that's brewing in the land—Bella is pregnant, and because the child isn't a "normal human," she's progressing through her pregnancy quite fast (much faster than normal).

Breaking Dawn – Part 1 crossed the $700 million mark once again, grossing $712.2 million at the box office on a $127 million budget.

The final film, Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is all about the aftermath of the pregnancy and baby as Bella is finally a vampire, and is adjusting to life as a new mom. As expected, Bella and Edward's new arrival Renesmee is a special creature, and growing at an almost uncontrollable rate. However, it isn't long before the Volturi learn about the child's birth, which leads to them declaring Renesmee to be abnormal and sentencing Bella and Edward to death as a result. Now, they must do whatever they can to protect their family from the forces that are trying to destroy them.

Breaking Dawn – Part 2 would go on to become the highest-grossing film in the series, grossing $848.6 million at the box office. For now this is where Twilight has left us. We'll have to see if there's any prequels or remakes that come about in the future.
