Across the NFL's 100+ year history, seven wild card teams have gone on to win the Super Bowl. The Oakland Raiders were the first to do it in 1981, and most recently the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did it in 2021.

2. 2010-11 Green Bay Packers

In the playoffs, the Packers went on a remarkable run. They defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round, the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional round, and the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship game. Aaron Rodgers had a stellar season and playoffs, showcasing his skills as a top-tier quarterback. His performance in Super Bowl XLV solidified his legacy, and he was instrumental in leading the team to victory.

The following season, they had one of the best offenses in NFL history, but wound up on the other end of this story by losing to the Wild Card, New York Giants in the first round of the playoffs.

3. 2007-08 New York Giants

As a Wild Card team, the Giants had a challenging road to the Super Bowl. In the playoffs, they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round, the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional round, and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game. Awaiting them in the Super Bowl was the undefeated New England Patriots, ranked one of the best teams in the history of the sport. It turned out to be one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time, featuring this all-time great catch which helped the Giants close the game out.

4. 2005-06 Pittsburgh Steelers

In the playoffs, the Steelers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card round, the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional round, and the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played a crucial role in the Super Bowl victory, and wide receiver Hines Ward was named the Super Bowl MVP for his performance, which included a touchdown reception.

5. 2000-01 Baltimore Ravens
