Mixing streetwear and tailoring, old school and new school, and always keeping it fresh with color, Jonah Hill was our favorite paparazzi magnet to watch this year. And we weren’t the only ones: launched in spring of 2017, outfit-stalking Instagram account @jonahfits now has a cool 10,000 followers, and that’s just the beginning of the fashion world’s obsession with the actor.

Justin Bieber used to be known for his meticulously arranged coif and skin-tight jeans but this year he let it all hang out in basketball shorts, pool slides and “just got out of a convertible” hair. We’re not going to say these are outfits to go out and copy, but the newly engaged pop star certainly looked like he was having the time of his life. And remember: fashion is supposed to be fun, especially in the summer.

Unlike most actors, Rami Malek’s style has been dialed in since day one. But nothing he wore during his Mr. Robot debut compares to the parade of razor-sharp suits and statement shirts he donned during the Bohemian Rhapsody press tour this year. If you’re trying to figure out how to wear nice clothes outside of the office, make Malek your mentor and all will be well.

There are a lot of ex-Disney actors, boy-banders and YouTube stars dressing well now that they’ve matured (and earned a boatload of money), but Ross Lynch out-dressed them all in 2018. Whether on stage in a striped T-shirt and skinny jeans or on the red carpet in jewel-tone tailoring, the 22-year-old gives rebel style a good name.

Donald Glover couldn’t be more modern in his work as an artist, but his personal style is straight out of the ‘70s. Think: flared pants, loafers, and visible chest hair. Lucky for him, designers have been digging deep into the decade for inspiration lately, and few celebrities have the swagger and confidence to pull off the wares like him.

At 66, Jeff Goldblum has finally found his style groove. While the actor and jazz musician takes chances with metallic fabrics, loud prints, and rocker accessories, his wardrobe is totally streamlined. His clothes fit like a dream, he anchors every look in black, and isn’t afraid to repeat-wear especially good finds. With age, comes wisdom.

While the style competition is fierce in the NBA, few can hold a candle to the stylings of Houston Rockets teammates James Harden and PJ Tucker. Often entering the arena and posing for pictures together, but never fully coordinated, they give us so much to look at, so much to admire. May we all dress this bravely, accessorize with this much abandon, and still keep a straight face in photos.

Dad style might be trending right now, but that’s not what the Caves are all about. Nick and son Earl (and mom too) are all about rock god style—velvet suits, long hair, jewelry—whether it’s a moody holiday party or 80 degrees and sunny. While their red carpet-appearances are limited to the occasional fashion event, we had to give them a shout-out for being cooler than every other family on the planet.  

You know the artistic guy in your high school class also had a knack for making everyone laugh? Ezra Miller is totally that guy. His over-the-top outfits for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald haven been weird and wonderful, and he knows it. That he takes them one step further with makeup and elaborate poses adds to the over-the-top-ness. Hey, if everyone is going to take your picture, you might as well give them a show.

Timothée Chalamet became a style icon the second he hit the Call Me By Your Name press tour in 2017 wearing right-off-the-runway Berluti and Calvin Klein rigs like it was nothing. In 2018 he stepped it up a notch in razor sharp suits done in romantic colors and fabrics from Alexander McQueen and Givenchy. We call it: luxury heartthrob-wear.  

Tyler, the Creator’s magic is his ability to make the uncool cool through a highly proprietary combination of confidence, swagger and humor. This year he was particularly into safety vests and socks with sandals, which he managed to make look damn good whether on the ‘gram or one of the big summer concert stages. Next year, who knows what he’ll convince us to reconsider. 

A$AP Rocky is proof that gender less fashion doesn’t necessarily need to be “neutral.” The rapper often wears hyper feminine and masculine clothing together in one outfit for a look that’s elegant and deeply cool. This year he was big into chest-hugging turtlenecks, mannish trousers and vintage lady accessories. We can’t wait to see where he takes us next. 

There aren’t many rules left in the NBA style playbook but athleticism is still a common theme. After all, who better to rock sweats, sneakers and hoodies than actual athletes? Kelly Oubre Jr. gives jock-wear our favorite twist of all, wearing ultra-skinny fits, lots of black and touches of leather for a vibe that’s more goth god than NBA hotshot.
