A legendary fashion designer who is only adding to his equally legendary resume at this point, Owens has achieved loads of success since launching his first fashion show on Hollywood Boulevard in 1994 and making the game changing decision to relocate his brand to Paris in the early 2000s. Let’s first take it back to the beginning. Rick Owens was born on November 18th, 1962 in Porterville, California. Upon graduating high school, Owens relocated to Los Angeles to enroll at the Otis College of Art and Design for two years before transferring to Los Angeles Trade-Technical College where he would learn pattern-making and draping. His work would eventually lead him to different jobs in the garment industry where he would meet his future spouse and fellow designer Michèle Lamy, who owned the Lamy Sportswear brand.

Upon launching his first clothing store on Hollywood Boulevard in 1994, Owens would quickly gain notoriety by having notable boutiques carry his clothes, and through Kate Moss being photographed in one of his pieces for Vogue Paris by Corrine Day. This opportunity would lead to Vogue America sponsoring his first runway show, with Owens eventually deciding to relocate his brand to Paris. Since then, the designer has gone on to launch five different labels (RICK OWENS, DRKSHDW, RICKOWENSLILIES, SLAB, and HUNRICKOWENS). He also co-owns Owenscorp with Lamy.

In 2019, Owens dedicated his fashion show "Larry FW19" to Larry LeGaspi, the man he personally considers his creative forefather, introducing LeGaspi in his fall and winter 2019 women's runway collection. In 2022, Owens also launched his Spring and Fall RTW collections.
