The Top Sneaker Drops You Need to Know This Week
A look at this week’s most anticipated sneaker releases
Nike Joyride Run Flyknit
Release date: August 15
Price: $180
Like a bean bag for your feet, Nike introduces the Joyride Run Flyknit. Designed to make running easier and more enjoyable, Nike’s new Joyride technology consists of tiny foam beads that conform to your foot for cushioning and support. It also doubles up as a great experience for more active runners looking for a recovery-style run after a big relay or marathon.
With over a thousand beans packed into calculated pod-like sections in the sole unit of the shoe, it’s guaranteed to give a softer and more personalized cushioning for each foot. With other models slated for release throughout the rest of the year, and a rumored collaboration with Creative Director and designer of Alyx, Matthew M. Williams, Joyride technology is definitely an exciting new technology to see coming from Nike.
Air Jordan I “Satin Black Toe”
Release date: August 17
Price: $160
Jordan Brand has taken the Nike Air Jordan I to the next level. The cult classic “Black Toe” gets a luxurious upgrade with the introduction of satin material dressing the upper and heel of the silhouette, along with the Air Jordan wings emblem getting a metal pin-like upgrade that adds to the upscale factor and premium look.
This is a women’s release coming in only women’s sizing, but many sneakerheads are interested in adding this silhouette to their ensemble. From the success of the original introduction of satin material to this model, we can only expect more versions of this luxe and retro blend.
Adidas Yeezy Boost 700 “Wave Runner”
Release date: August 17
Price: $300
After releasing a barrage of Adidas Yeezy in a surprise restock last week, the brand is continuing with a restock of the coveted Yeezy Boost 700 “Wave Runner.” First released in November of 2017, it is known as the OG colorway and once resold for nearly $900 on StockX, three times its cost at retail. If you’re looking to add a Yeezy to your collection, this is definitely the one to grab.
The most notable aspect of this model is the minimalistic design approach to the “Dad Shoe” silhouette. The natural but vibrant color blocking that this silhouette embodies was a significant change to Kanye’s design aesthetic compared to the previous Adidas Yeezy Boost series. And it was a successful one. Perfect to dress up or down, make sure you check your local Adidas store and sneaker boutiques to see if they are restocking this Saturday.
