In the episode “Everything Stays,” we are given a look into the life and feelings of Marceline. Not only do we get the beautiful song “Everything Stays” sung to a young Marceline by her mother Elise who makes her first appearance in the show, but we get to learn more about Marceline as a person aside from her vampire slaying ability.

Season 7 gave us a lot of gems including this “Crossover” episode which is centered around a wish that Finn asked Primo to make, that finds Finn in the multiverse facing an ice wizard version of himself. Now Finn has to stop the alternate dimension of himself along with another villain to prevent the entire multiverse from being destroyed.

Finn along with Jake, Susan, and BMO are trapped on the island by Finn’s mom who traps them on her computer in the hopes of being able to protect Finn from what she feels is a dangerous future. Finn in turn decides to leave the island with the hopes of getting everybody else to come with him as well, leaving the computer with no other choice but to let him go when he sees all the positive attributes Finn has contributed.

Taking it back to season 2, Jake and Finn have to deal with the consequences of accidentally killing Princess Bubblegum’s beloved plant, which requires them to sneak into the Land of the Dead to try to bring it back. Of course because it’s the land of the dead, they end up running into a creepy character named Death, who in they turn challenge to a music battle. It makes no sense but it kinda does. That’s the best way to describe this episode.

In “The Tower” Finn decides he’s going to build a tower to space, but this episode is so much more than the actual building of the tower. The process of building the tower is a therapeutic one for Finn that focuses on addressing grief, healing, and trauma. This is one of those animated episodes that you understand a little better as you start to get older because you catch the context clues and subtle references.

Okay a good percentage of us are afraid of the ocean, so Finn wasn’t alone with this one. That said, it’s always nice when you have a best friend that is willing to help you face your fears, which Jake does beautifully. Sure there visions of a post-apocalyptic disaster along the way, which was kind of a DJ scratch, but that doesn’t change the beauty in the message right?

There was a lot going on in “Too Young.” Princess Bubblegum has regressed to the age of Finn, which Finn is initially happy about, but then a challenger by the name of Lemongrab arrives to prove that he is the one worthy of the royal throne. We’ll let you see how this one plays out for yourselves.

In “Thank You,” Finn and Jake encounter a fire-breathing wolf cub lost in the woods, and become friends with him. The episode explores the similarities and differences between the cub and a snow golem, painting a pretty picture of how opposites attract and work together.

In “Islands Part 5,” Susan Strong begins to have flashbacks to when she was younger, which results in her beginning to learn more about who she actually is. Little was known about Susan and her background before, and the possibility of being human is one that starts to be explored.

Finn can’t help but to check out a cave while on an adventure with Jake, which leads him trapped inside a mysterious dungeon unable to find his way out. And because it’s Adventure Time we’re talking about here, Finn finds that he has to solve a series of riddles partially dependent upon his own imagination to get out.

Marceline finally comes clean to Finn and Jake about her Ice King past and connection from nearly 1,000 years ago while playing basketball. In short, the two go way back and have a special relationship in which Ice King has protected Marcy, showing that his heart isn’t made purely out of ice after all.

Jake and Finn do a funeral ritual after Prismo dies which leads to Jake eating the last pickle that Prismo made for him. After eating the pickle, Jake gets transported to Prismo’s lair where Finn is left with the task of saving his butt…again.

Finn, who has been on the search for his mom, finally finds her but discovers that things aren’t what he thought they would be as she’s trying to help people suffering from a deadly virus on the island. In the meantime, Susan is also dealing with the effects of seeing someone from her past life.

Jake can’t control his imagination while he and Finn are trapped inside a treehouse during a dreadful rainy day, and because he can’t control his imagination, it brings many dangers to the treehouse. The mind really is a powerful thing.

The ultimate “be careful what you wish for” cautionary tale, Finn wishes that Lich never existed which has awful consequences including Finn being transported into an alternate dimension where he becomes a mere mortal farm boy that is the complete opposite of who he is. Oh, and Finn's wish has a direct negative impact on everyone he knows. Impulsive acts rarely ever turn out good, which is something we should all keep in mind.

Fern is what we’ll call the imaginary twin of Finn as he was accidentally created by Finn during an episode in season 8, and kind of looks exactly like him. Anyways, the two decide they are going to embark on a visit to an ancient ruin together, which quickly turns ugly because they start fighting due to Fern’s insecurity of “not being the real Finn.”

Vampire King’s Vampuric Essence (sounds toxic doesn’t it) is released into the air, transforming into a nearly unstoppable force. Without Marceline’s assistance, Finn, Jake, and Princess Bubblegum are left to tackle this one by themselves, which they fail at doing. Good thing Marceline got her mojo back and realized who she was because they would have been completely and utterly screwed without her help.

In “Checkmate,” Marceline’s archenemy pays her an unwelcome visit, which is just in time with her regaining her powers after defeating the Vampire’s King Court. There’s a lot of depth and realization to this episode as the two essentially have to work together for the greater good despite being enemies.

At this point in the series, Finn still knows nothing about his biological parents or origins. Susan comes to the rescue with the answer to all of his questions, which leads Finn down a path of discovery addressed in later episodes.

Finn and Jake are given the task of investigating reports of ghostly haunting at Joshua and Margaret’s old office which ends with a lot of time travel, and Jake encountering his blue alien parent Warren Ampersand.

“I Remember You” just might be the saddest Adventure Time episode ever as The Ice King asks Marceline to help him write a song to help remember who he was before (Ice King who is also known as Simon is suffering from Alzheimers). Together they are able to recall smaller moments of his past proving that sometimes it’s the small things in life that matter the most.

We can all identify with wanting to be something or somebody when we were kids. While it might seem unconventional, Jake has always wanted to be a brick. And because he has always wanted to be a brick he conducts an experiment of being a brick in a brick shack, and leaves his imagination to take over the rest.

Card games have a way of leaving you riled up and bringing out the worst in you (ask anybody who has ever been involved in a heated match of UNO or Spades). In “Card Wars,” Finn decides to join in on Jake’s favorite card game and things get emotional real fast as passion and poor sportsmanship take over real fast.

Ladies and gents, this episode got the Adventure Time squad an Emmy, and it’s easy to see why when you watch it. “Puhoy” focuses on a depressed Finn dealing with his feelings for Flame Princess. Sometimes when things aren’t going your way romantically you’ve got to start fresh, which is exactly what Finn does when he decides to enter a pillow fort and start a new life for himself.

With Marceline facing death if she doesn’t get The Moon’s healing power in her system soon, Princess Bubblegum is out to search for a cure, while Jake and Finn battle an evil vampire.

A visually cool episode set in the midst of space, Finn, Jake, and Orgalorg cross paths with a comet where they encounter an ultimatum of dying in space or starting anew.

In “Betty,” The Ice King is reverted back to his human self after losing his powers, which causes him to start withering away. Determined to not let this happen, Betty is tasked with defeating Bella Noche in the hopes of being able to restore The Ice King aka Simon’s powers.

Diving more into Marceline’s backstory, five foes from her past come back to cause trouble for the land of Ooo. We also learn more about Marceline’s transformation from a vampire-slayer into a vampire herself.

Princess Bubblegum is left with no other choice but to go back to the creation of the Candy Kingdom after a precious artifact is lost, which sees her creating her own family who predictably turns against her, because isn’t that what always happens?

Where the “Stakes” storyline all starts off. In Part 1, Marceline asks Princess Bubblegum for a favor as she wants to come to terms with being a vampire before she dies.

In “Distant Lands: Together Again,” Jake and Finn go on perhaps their most important journey together which is dying and coming back to life, and strengthening their brotherly bond.
