Everything You Need To Know About Tubi
1. Lion (2016)
Nominated for six Academy Awards, Lion is a film adaptation of the non-fiction book, A Long Way Home. Dev Patel portrays Saroo Brierley, who embarks on a journey to search for his family back in India where he had been separated from them 25 years prior. Since he doesn't have much to go off of except for his memories as a very young child, he searches all over Google maps for anything that looks vaguely familiar. After finding something that he thinks might be a clue, he tells his adoptive mother about his search and forges on to see if this finding will lead him anywhere.
2. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
This western classic brings together Paul Newman and Robert Redford as they find themselves on the run after carrying out train robberies throughout Wyoming. When Butch Cassidy (Newman) and the Sundance Kid (Redford) are trailed by a posse who has been given direct orders to kill the pair, they need to come up with a plan to flee the area. They eventually settle on heading to Bolivia to start a new (still crime-based) life, but things aren't as they had hoped when they finally arrive.
3. The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008)
Starring Keanu Reeves, this adaptation of the original 1951 film is set in modern times and focuses on the effects of climate change as a call to action on Earth. Reeves plays Klaatu, an alien who was sent to Earth to save it from environmental ruin, as he lands in Central Park to begin his journey. Though he is met with fear, confusion, and military force (he did just land a UFO in Central Park, after all), he forges ahead on his mission after connecting with Helen Benson, a scientist who is looking to form a plan of survival with the alien.
4. Pretty Woman (1990)
A '90s classic by Garry Marshall, Pretty Woman circles around the unlikely relationship between Vivian, an escort, and Edward, a successful businessman. After hiring her to be his escort for various events over the course of a week, their relationship grows as they actually get to know one another. However, certain aspects of this relationship lead her to feel as if she's not good enough, especially at a shop on Rodeo Drive where she's turned away for how she was dressed. Edward tries to make up for these differences, but ultimately, he comes up short and his efforts are misconstrued. The pair then have to figure out how—and if—they're going to move forward with their relationship.
5. Django Unchained (2012)
Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained is loosely based off of the 1966 film, Django, and follows Jamie Foxx as Django Freeman, a slave who is bought by Dr. Schultz, a dentist-turned-bounty hunter. With a star-studded cast of Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, and Christopher Waltz, this film is a modern take on the classic westerns of the '60s and '70s. The film received many nominations, including Best Picture at the Academy Awards, with Waltz earning both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in his role as Dr. Schultz.
6. Fight Club (1999)
Although this film received pretty split reviews, it has become a bit of a cult classic in the years following its release. Starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, it's based on Chuck Palahniuk's novel, Fight Club. Narrating the film is Norton, portraying a businessman who wants to pursue something a bit more exciting, so he starts a fight club with Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt.
7. The Karate Kid (1984)
In this classic 1984 film, high schooler Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) decides to learn karate after he decides he's had enough of being bullied by one of the black belts from a nearby dojo. He asks Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), the handyman at his apartment, to teach him the art of karate, expecting an intense, physical class. However, when Mr. Miyagi starts Daniel off on various daily chores, he begins to lose faith in his instructor. Little by little, their bond grows, and Daniel learns the importance of the smaller tasks and begins to work his way up to actually learning karate.
8. Moneyball (2011)
Moneyball tells the real story of baseball scout, Billy Beane, and how he used statistics to form a winning team with the Oakland Athletics back in 2002. Brad Pitt portrays Beane, with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jonah Hill alongside him. When Beane meets Peter Brand (Hill), a graduate from Yale, he discusses how to use more mathematical ways of approaching the formation of a winning baseball team. Beane takes this to heart and employs it in scouting for the Athletics.
9. Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005)
Playing off the story of Jumanji, Zathura follows Walter (Josh Hutcherson) and Danny (Jonah Bobo), two brothers who find an old board game to play while their dad is out. When the game sends them to outer space and starts to make things occur in real life, they have to continue playing through the game to make it end. While all of this is happening, their sister, Lisa (Kristen Stewart), is fast asleep, even though her father left her in charge.
10. My Friend Dahmer (2017)
Actor and musician Ross Lynch portrays Jeffrey Dahmer in this deep dive into the life of who would one day become one of the most infamous serial killers of all time. Obsessed with the inner structure of animals, Dahmer would find dead animals and use a chemical solution to retrieve their bones. Since his father was a chemist, he had access to a wide range of chemicals to use. This obsession methodically grew as time passed, with Dahmer eventually killing animals instead of finding them and becoming preoccupied with fantasizing about human corpses. Although his father pushed him to become more social with friends, the friends he made never really stuck, and the film portrays the odd and awkward nature of these friendships at school. Overall, Lynch received rave reviews of his performance and the film as a whole performed very well critically.
11. Barnyard (2006)
Kevin James is the voice of Otis, a cow who leads a pack of various farm animals through a few different conflicts throughout the film. Ultimately, Dag, the leader of a coyote pack, kidnaps a bunch of chickens from the barnyard, which sends Otis and the others on a rescue mission.
12. The Big Short (2015)

It's based on the 2010 book, The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis, and stars Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, and Steve Carell. The film takes place at Scion Capital, FrontPoint Partners, and Brownfield Capital, tying the three separate firms together in telling the story of the financial crisis.
13. Cake (2014)
Although the film received less than favorable reviews, Aniston's performance was applauded and she received both Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations. Cake is about Claire Bennett, who abuses pain medications to relieve her chronic pain and to stop thinking about her son's death. A year prior, Bennett and her son were in a car accident, but she was the only one who survived, leaving her with guilt, sadness, and fear.
14. LOL (2012)
Starring Demi Moore and Miley Cyrus as mother and daughter, LOL has a few different plots floating around. For one, it's the tug of war between overprotective parent and wanting-to-break-free child. On top of this, Anne (Moore), who is divorced from Lola's (Cyrus) father, is secretly seeing him on the side, and hasn't told Lola anything about it. As for the main story, it centers around Lola (called "Lol" for short, which is slightly ridiculous because it's only one less letter and syllable) after she breaks up with her boyfriend, Chad. After the breakup, she realizes she might be in love with her best friend, Kyle, portrayed by Douglas Booth. Though this movie wasn't received well critically, it has become weirdly beloved by a slew of viewers for reasons that I don't fully understand, even though I count myself as one of those viewers.
15. Megamind (2010)
Voiced by Will Ferrell, Megamind is a very human-like, alien supervillain who was brought to Metro City when he was just a baby. When he defeats his nemesis, Metro Man, he has to figure out what to do with his life without a villain to fight. Instead of going into a different line of duty, Megamind uses Metro Man's DNA to create a clone to fight, but things go awry when the new Metro Man gets to be too powerful.
