18 Shows Like 'Power Rangers' to Watch Right Now

What makes Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation similar to Power Rangers? In our opinion it's the live action element of the series, which was very clearly following the tone set by Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the earlier part of the 1990s, and to date, it's the only live-action series in the TNMT franchise. Premiering in September 1997, Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation was about the TMNT gang meeting a new ally named Venus de Milo, who is able to help the Turtles in their crime fighting adventures thanks to her unique skill set.

The show only ran for one season, ending in May 1998, and while it may not have received a ton of praise during the time that it aired, you might be able to look at it from another perspective. Episodes can currently be found on Prime.

Another show you'll enjoy if you like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, which was originally broadcast on ABC and ran from September 1994 to April 1995. An adaptation of the Japanese tokusatsu series Gridman the Hyper Agent, the show was about a teenager named Sam Collins (who was played by Matthew Lawrence) who are secretly fighting virus monsters by way of entering a computer. While the plot was an interesting one, a main criticism was that the show was just too similar to MMPR in terms of its overall approach. Running from 1994 to 1998, The Secret World of Alex Mack was another fun 1990s show about a teenager named Alexandra Mack who suddenly discovers she has superpowers. Alexandra chooses to keep her powers a secret so that way she can wreak her havoc in peace, but there's just one problem—she glows whenever she gets nervous or anxious. It's kind of hard to hide literally glowing whenever a problem arises, but luckily Alexandra has the help of her best friend and sister to help her whenever the going gets rough. If you enjoy Power Rangers, you might also develop a love for the mid-90s animated series Gargoyles which was produced by Walt Disney Television Animation, and aired from 1994 to 1997. A sci-fi/urban fantasy series, Gargoyles about species of nocturnal creatures that are stone by day, and gargoyles by night. Led by a fellow named Goliath, the whole city of Manhattan knows and is fearful about the presence of the gargoyles, and they have to battle against that to prove their goal is to provide protection. This show received favorable reviews during its run, so there's a chance you might like it as well. Episodes can be watched on Disney+, YouTube, Google Play, and Apple TV.

Much of Power Rangers has actually been an adaptation of the Super Sentai series (which is why it looks the same), so you'll certainly enjoy Chōjin Sentai Jetman for sure, which was about the survivor of an experiment in which humans were granted extraordinary abilities being given the task leading four young heroes against a nemesis from another dimension named Vyram. The show was created and produced by Toei company, and ran from February 1991 to February 1992. Episodes can be watched on Prime, Pluto TV, Tubi, and Sling TV.

You might also enjoy Mutant X, which ran from October 2001 to May 2004. Produced by Fireworks Entertainment, Marvel Studios, and Global Television Network, Mutant X was about a team of accidental mutants who achieved their powers by way of a genetic engineering experiments where they were used as test subjects. Now blessed with a set of powers and classified as mutants, the group sets out with the mission of finding and protecting their fellow mutants from danger. You can watch Mutant X on a variety of streaming services including Prime, Google Play, Apple TV, and Redbox.

Big Bad Beetleborgs is oh so 1990s, but maybe that's why you'll enjoy it. Produced by Renaissance-Atlantic Films, Toei Company, and Bugboy Productions, the show ran from September 1996 to March 1998 on Fox Kids, and centered around three kids becoming superheroes by wishing their way into a comic book. Their wish gets granted, and they become the Big Bad Beetleborgs. The only problem is that is becoming a superhero now means you now have to deal with a variety of super-villains, and the trio has to learn the ropes quick. You can revisit this series by way of Prime, which has all of the episodes available to stream.

Oh you'll definitely enjoy Masked Rider as well. Running from September 1995 to November 1996 on Fox Kids, the series is both an adaptation of to the Japanese television series Kamen Rider Black RX and a spinoff of Power Rangers. The show premiered during the third season of MMPR, and while the planet of Edenoi did make an appearance on Mighty Morphin, there was some confusion as to how it all connected. If you can manage to put that to the side, Masked Rider is a fun watch along with being a fun throwback to the 1990s era of television. Episodes can be watched on YouTube.

SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron is another show from the 90s that looked like it had potential, but only ended running about a year. Produced by Hannah-Barbera cartoons, anthropomorphic felines knows as "Kats" are the residents of a the fictional Megakat City, and the "SWAT Kats" are the ones with the biggest powers. You see, SWAT Kats are armed with state-of-the-art weaponry that allows them to kick butt at the highest level, and they certainly need every single weapon in their arsenal as they are battling Dark Kat and the various other villains of the city. The series ran on TBS from 1993 to 1994, and can now be streamed on Prime, Apple TV, Google Play, and YouTube.

We'll always maintain that Silver Surfer is a show that didn't get its due credit. Only spanning thirteen episodes, the short-lived series ran on Fox Kids, and was about The Fantastic Four's battles against Silver Surfer and the planet-eating Galactus. Season Two was almost ready to go as well before the show was abruptly cancelled. Guess we'll never fully know what Silver Surfer's full potential could have been, but you can relive the thirteen episodes in its full glory on Disney+.

If you are a 2000s kids, then you'll definitely enjoy watching (or re-watching for that matter) Justice League Unlimited, which originally ran from 2004 to 2006 on Cartoon Network. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the series is a direct follow-up to its Justice League predecessor, picking up roughly two years after the events of the first series. It should be noted that Justice League Unlimited serves as a conclusion to the DC Animated Universe, and while you don't have to necessarily watch the original series to pick up on what's going on, we recommend you do. Ah, you forgot all about Jackie Chan Adventures didn't you? Allow us to refresh your memory here a bit. Jackie Chan Adventures (which obviously saw Jackie Chan voicing the titular character) was produced by Sony Pictures, and ran from September 2000 to July 2005 on Kids' WB. The series was about a martial artist and archaeologist named Jackie Chan who has to fight against evil forces on the hunt for precious (and magical) artifacts. Jackie Chan Adventures received high ratings during its airing, and can now be rewatched on YouTube, Google Play, Prime and Apple TV.

You'll get a kick out of Black Lightning, which is a bit more recent than some of the other shows we've included in this list thus far, so chances are you may have already seen it. If you haven't, however, now is a good time to rewatch the series, which ran from 2018 to 2021, and was an expansion into the DCU. The main character, Jefferson Pierce, was previously a superhero in the past, but is forced back into the life due to his daughter being recruited into a street gang. You can currently catch Black Lightning on multiple streaming platforms including Prime, Apple TV, and Netflix.

Unfortunately Voltron Force was another television show that was only made it about a year, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be appreciated. The series was meant to be a follow up to the original version that ran in the 1980s, but with a new class of evil-fighting recruits to take over the game. While the series may not have experienced the success of its predecessor, it's still very much fun to watch in our opinion. Episodes can be streamed on Tubi.

The good ole days of web series. It seems like the era of web series was just yesterday, but apparently it's been over a decade since it started, and we've quickly advanced past it. Nonetheless, Mortal Kombat Legacy was a by product of those web series days, which debuted and ran on YouTube from April 2011 to September 2014. The show itself was one that took a deeper look into the history of the game, while also covering the background of its most important characters. Despite originally being turned down for syndication, you can now find the series on multiple streaming services including Prime, Max, and Apple TV.

Not seeing how you can't get enjoyment out of Robocop: Alpha Commando either. Set in the year 2030, the main character, Robocop, is back in business after being offline for five years, and is now helping Alpha Division in their quest to fight terrorists and other evil bad guys. Robocop: Alpha Commando was based on the film Robocop and ran from September 1998 to February 1999. If you would like to give it a shot, you can currently do so through the Roku Channel.

We haven't included any series from the 1980s on here, so why not give the original Voltron a shot? Produced by World Events Productions, Voltron was an adaptation of the anime series Beast King Go-Lion, and was syndicated for 124 episodes. The show focused on five lions and their pilots who are aiming to defend their beloved planet Arus from the evil King Zarkon. Voltron can be streamed on Prime, Google Play, Vudu, and YouTube, and the enhancements are so good that you would think the show came out yesterday instead of almost 40 years ago.

If you want a little bit of sci-fi and a little bit of action, you can rewatch the late 2000s series V, which was all about everything that happens when the extraterrestrial and earth clash. The show is dubbed a reimagined version of the 1980s version miniseries of the same title, and ran for two seasons on ABC. Despite it's early cancellation, V actually received positive reviews, making it worth the rewatch. Episodes can be streamed on Prime, Apple TV, Google Play, and more.
